Special Visitor

Ms Murnane brought to school her red tailed black Cockatoo for a period. The year six class was watching and patting the bird called Storm. It is fun to have Storm visit us.

Maths and Science Questions

Published by edw0002 under questions

Each week the year six maths and science teacher gives us questions to solve, this week I was the first person to solve the question.

The question this week is……How many squares of all sizes are on a checkerboard?
I think that there are a total of 204 squares all together on a checkerboard.
1×1 squares = 64
2×2 squares = 49
3×3 squares = 36
4×4 squares = 25
5×5 squares = 16
6×6 squares = 9
7×7 squares = 4
8×8 squares = 1

Last week the question was……. What is the oldest thing you will ever see?The answer is Arcturus

The week before that the question was….. Why do people have different colour eyes? The reason people have different colour eyes is because in your eye there is a thing called malenine, those who have blue eyes have little to none and those with brown eyes have much more. Babies usually have blue eyes because they haven’t developed malenine yet and sometimes after 5 months or so the eyes will turn to their true colour. Usually but not always if there was some kind of trama to the eye at a young age it may not turn to brown and the other one will!!!!

Grammer Gremlins

Published by edw0002 under litracy

This is something we can look at before our next Grammer Test.

Common NOUN - the name given to a person, place or thing eg pimple, towel, pumpkin

ADJECTIVE - a word which describes a noun eg. blind, prickly, enormous

PROPER NOUN - the name of a particular person, place or thing. Proper nouns have capital letters. eg Kevin Rudd, Canberra, Prime Minister

VERB - an action or a doing word. If you can do it, then it’s a verb eg crawl, tickle, swim

ADVERB - Adds to the verb. Usually ends in ly and usually answers the question “how” something was done. eg. erratically, mercilessly, quickly

PERSONAL PRONOUN - a word which indicates personal onwership eg she, he, they, we, them, their, we,

CONJUNCTION - A word that joins 2 ideas together in a sentence. eg. and, then, so, but.  One conjunction, one fullstop. A sentence must only contain one conjunction.

PREPOSITION - A word  which indicates the “position” of something, compared to something else eg. the frog in the pond, the turtle under the rocks

Science

Published by edw0002 under science

In science today we were put in groups of three and we were given two balloons, a candle and matches. First we had to blow up one of the balloons, then with the other balloon we about half filled it with water, then we blew the rest of it up with air. After that we had to lite the candle, then with the balloon we blew up we had to hold just above the candle and it popped straight away. So then we did the same  with the balloon that was half filled up with water and air over the candle, some that didn’t have much water popped straight away, but with the groups that had about the right  amount of water and  air. First it went black at the bottom and went all hot, then it popped.

Published by edw0002 under writing

I usually catch a bus into school. I usally get to school about 8:45  or 8:50. The bell rings and we have to make our way into the classroom. The chair person asks us about how where feeling like positives, isues and we do tribles and say what where feeling out of ten. Then we do writing or our projects. Then it’s maths time, we correct our homework and do maths work. Ring, Ring the bell goes for reccess. Ring, ring the bell goes for third period, and we have sport, we get split into teams and play dodge ball. Then we have music fourth period. We learn to play a few cords on the guitar. Then the bell goes for lunch. Ring, ring, the bell goes for fifth period and we have art, Art is a fun activety and we do paintings and pictures, so fun. That’s a typical day at school for me.
